Bruthas Rising was founded in 2014 as a monthly support group in Oakland, California, for Black and Latino transmen. Through this group, we've welcomed dozens of local transmen and allies seeking community. Since then, the program has expanded in depth and breadth, receiving our 501c3 determination in 2016. Our values are rooted in community, collaboration, outreach, and our unique peer-to-peer support system.
Bruthas Rising is dedicated to building social capital, specifically among transmen of color, within the larger transgender community. We are also committed to diminishing the adverse effects of discrimination, transphobia, stigma, and health disparities within the community. Our end goal is to ensure that transmen can lead fulfilling lives, deeply connected in a community rich with resources that nurture life goals, belonging, bolster self-esteem, foster self awareness, and promote healthy affirmations.
Work to improve the spiritual, physical, mental, and economic health and well-being of transgender men, with a particular focus on those most underserved, in an effort to engage, empower, and evolve all members of our diverse community.
Utilize community outreach and peer support to build social capital among transmen of color within the larger transgender rights movement.
